I know that an inguinal hernia is in the groin area. I basically have a bump that's directly in the center of the pubic area. Can that be an inguinal hernia?

It is more likely to be an enlarged lymph node. If it persists over two weeks, is tender or getting larger, see a doctor.

Most hernias are closer to the scrotum, and bowel can actually bulge into the scrotal sac. And most of these can be reduced, at least temporarily, by lying down, relaxing and putting gentle pressure on the bulge in the direction of the knee. (That's not a mistake; push down, not up!)
