I know this is supposed to go into a different catorgory but i get more answers in this catergory, but. Ok so i can't get the epiderial because I have a bone missing in my spine. So whats the next best thing to do? Have it natural? Take some pain medications while giving birth? Or getting the c section? Im scared about having it natural because i heard about alot of women getting ripped down there.

I'd have to say go natural its the safest way and besides by the time they give you the damn epidural 90% of the pain is already over with!!! And you actually heal much faster w/o the pain killers .. And C-Sections you can't hold your baby, pick it up, carry it around for a few weeks which is devasting when it cries .... and it takes FOREVER to heal and the scarring is .. bad

Basically I had a still born so I dunno if I qualify as a mother but I went threw the birthing process. My first child no pain killers, alone. I ripped and managed to break my pelvis all for that .. But either way I did it. I was so proud of myself for not taking the meds ....

These aren't all the options, for your babies sake you want to try and use as little medicine as possible. Having birth you have so many scenarios, some go all natural at home with a midwife, some give birth in a tub of water, some in a birthing chair,.......What ever you do you need to start the preparation for giving birth long before it is time for labor..
Having it "natural" does not mean you can't have a local anesthetic and have an episiotomy (spell chek didn't know either). A surgical incision that prevents you from tearing. There are some birthing areas that have a hand held inhaled med that you can take whiff of when the pain gets to much to stand, you relax and it doesn't knock you out just gives temp short time relief, since you can't do the normal epidural your Doc or Practioner should be able to give you even more options,
Good Luck, educate your self as best you can, the more you know the less fear the less fear the less pain, also diversionary music and or other things like back rubs do help.. I had my first, cold turkey NATURAL out in the hallway between L&D back in the old days, to young to be afraid, to fast to worry about the pain, which was worth a HI decible scream but was gone in seconds.. I don't recomend this way to others :)

There are different medications you could take through an IV. I chose not to do an epidural and yes I ripped. Only because the doctor wasn't there to do an episiotomy though. If I were to have another child I still wouldn't have an epidural. Don't worry, not every women rips. Take some Lamaze classes, those really helped me relax during labor. Good Luck, you'll be fine.

I'm not a mother, I know it says mothers only.

Natural is the best thing you can do for your child because even in that short period of time the drugs still get to your child.

You should talk to your doctor about the different meds available and then see.

As for c section from everyone I've talked to it sounds great but your recover much slower than natural birth and you get a scar. Natural is always best.

Some women rip a lot. My brother's wife had to get stitches to her bum while others didn't need stitches at all. Most women need 3 stitches but by the time the baby is out you're just relieved it's over and you don't feel the stitches. Just ask for ones that dissolve so you won't need to get them removed.

I hope this helps, I know I'm not a mother so most people don't care what I have to say but I've heard lots of stories and I'm in college for this stuff! :)

you may rip you may not if the baby isn't huge and your doc. stretches while the babies coming then you won't even need an episiotomy. I would never have a child w/o an epidural so if it were me I would tell them to put me to sleep and have a c-section! But this is obviously your first baby and those first moments are so precious and once your holding the baby the pain is all forgotten. so it is all up to you!!! you may be a toughie and just be able to push that baby out with no problems!!! If your gonna stay awake and have the baby at least take all the pain meds they can give you!!! LOL you will be glad you did GOOD LUCK

I can only speak for myself.......Girl go for the c-section. I have two boys = two c-sections. The first one wasn't planned and the second was. No braxton hicks, no contractions with either one of them. Sometimes, I do feel like I missed out on the whole experience of "going into labor", but after you read some of this stuff about getting cut down there and so forth... I'm beginning to think I didn't miss out on a thing :)

Hope this helps.

i never had an epidural. i was on pain med. gas mainly. try natural if you can, you will heal quicker where as with a c section, it takes about 8 weeks to feel okay. maybe even longer for some.

You can have the baby natural, if you rip you really won't feel it! The contractions are more overwhelming then it ripping !!!!!!!!!! You can get med's in between your contractions! IF YOU HAVE A C-SECTION THEY WILL PUT YOU TO SLEEP AND YOU WON'T HAVE THE BLESSING TO SEE YOUR CHILD OR HEAR YOUR CHILD!!! DON'T DO IT!!!! you would have to wait in the recovering room for 1 hr before seeing your child!!!

I did natural without meds even though the doctor said he would give me something for the pain. Its not bad at all.
