First multiply the whole equation by 15 to get rid of the fractions

60 - 3x + 30 = 15x + 5

Now combine like terms on both sides of the = sign

90 - 3x = 15x + 5

Add 3x to both sides to get the x on one side of the = sign, and subtract 5 from both sides to get the numbers on the other side of the = sign

85 = 18x

Now divide both sides by 18 to get the x all alone

85/18 = x

Simplified

x = 4 and 13/18

4-x/5 + 2=x+1/3

4-x/5=x+2 1/3

4-x=5x+11 2/3

-x=5x+7 2/3

-6x=7 2/3

6x=-7 2/3

x= -1.28 (rounded off)

PS: There is alot of confusion because you did not use parenthesis to show were exactly the division is ocurring.

Is it (4-x)/5 or is it 4-(x/5)

I thought you meant the first one...but if not then my answer is totally wrong.

And for some reason on the second one I thought you meant x+(1/3) not (x+1)/3 which would also change it all. You need to specify.

If you meant (4-x)/5 +2 =(x+1)/3, the answer is x = 2.5
Multiply both sides by 15 and ypu'll get 30x = 75
So x = 75/30 = 2.5.

If you did not mean what I have assumed, then the 1st answerer is correct.

Multiply both sides by 5 and then again by 3

12 - 3x +30 = 5x + 5

simplify
37 = 8x
x = 37/8 = 4 5/8

2007-10-19 12:28:25 · answer #5 · answered by Steve P 5 · 0 1

4-x/5 + 2 = x+1/3
subtract 1/3 from each side to get 4-x/5+2 = x
add x to each side to get 4/5 + 2 = 2x
do 4/5 to get .8 + 2 = 2x
combine .8 and 2 to get 2.8 = 2x
divide each side by 2 to get X = 1
your answer is X=1
now im not an expert but with my 9th grade education i think thats right.

rearrange equation to get x's to one side.

(6/5)x = 4+5/3 then multiply by 15 to get

60 +25 = 18x (this should be easy to solve)

4-2(3x+a million) = 3(2-x)+5 use the distributive property, so which you get 4-6x-2 = 6-3x+5 then integrate like words: 2-6x = 11-3x then positioned the numbers on one side, the x variables on the different (right here, i subtracted 2 and 3x from the two facets)-- so now you will get -3x = 9 divide the two facets by making use of -3, so x = -3

Perform the same operation on both sides until you have 'x' on one side by itself.

1. Multiple both sides by 5
2. Add x to both sides
3. subtract 5/3 from both sides
6. Divide both sides by 6
that should do it.
