Well, I hate to say it, but your best bet is to go to an H-D dealership. The miles and shape of your bike will be a big bargaining chip. High miles but good maintenance is good, if you have the paperwork to prove it.

See what H-D will give you in "trade" if you use it as down payment on a new or other used bike. Use this info to grade the bike. Mileage is of great concern to people looking for a used bike. Paperwork is usually non-existant if you have your work done at an indie shop. But if you can show regular service intervals, even a cautious buyer will be happy.

You did not mention the miles on the bike, or the shape it is in. My '99 Dyna sits out in the weather. It will be worth much less than a garaged bike. If you can give me more info (I do e-mail and on-line here.) I can give you a better idea of what the bike may be worth.

Just remember that the price you can get depends on how badly the buyer wants the bike! You may get lucky and find a person collecting bikes. The '85 model is over 20 years old, it's a collector item now. Good luck, drop me a line if I can help get this answer any better. Ciao!

It sounds like you work hard for the money, and for anyone that rides a bike, ( I am a female Harley rider), knows how therapeutic going for a ride can be. There is a saying,,, 'You never see a motorcycle parked outside of a therapists office'. She is without a doubt going overboard, any woman who spends time in the kitchen would be thrilled to have the layout you have given her. Here's the deal, she needs a hobby, a job, perhaps learn to ride a bike as well, it is completely unfair that a partner would try to convince the other to give up a passion. She is lucky you have been so generous to her, you could be chasing other women instead of riding your bike. If you relent and give up the bike, what next will she want you to deprive yourself of? Keep the bike, and tell her to earn that beautiful kitchen by using it and leaving you alone! Good Luck and keep your knees in the breeze...

Go to E-Bay and watch the prices of other "ironheads" to see what the market is. For other info try Yahoo groups : Ironhead garage. But I've found the ironhead sportsters on a downhill trend the last six months. This spring it will probably bounce back though.

If its in good shape its worth about $4000.00-4500.00. Avoid Harley dealers like the plague. They will only cheat you out of your bike for peanuts and ship it overseas for a big profit. Advertise locally. Ask $5500.00 to start and be ready to negotiate down to a fair price. Good luck

whatever you do dont trade it in I used to work in a dealership, no matter what you think you got in "trade" they get the bike for free and make pure profit by selling it.
