think about it. its a superstition that when you sneeze, you lose your soul. we all know that doesnt happen, so why even say it? sneezing is just a bodily function. does anyone say "bless you" after you pass gas and it smells bad? i mean, the second part of that phrase might stay the same i dont know about the first part.

Its not just a superstition, People also say it because when you sneeze your heart stops for a second. Some say it because they believe the soul is trying to escape others say it because they are blessing the person who just sneezed because there heart stopped. I to believe that it is a nice gesture and it all ties back to manners.

Bless Gas? Bless Sneeze? I think the Germans started that. It's ok...it gave you a question to ask so it is useful. Keep the phrase.....later on someone else will ask your same question. lol

It is nice to say Bless You when someone sneezes, because it is polite. If you don't say it, that is kind of rude.

'Bless You'? Never heard that before. Usually when I sneeze my head falls off and people run screaming.
Maybe they do say it, but they are always showing a clean pair of heels when they do.

The Tin Man. :-)

Its like a reflex to say it now. If someone sneezes and your the nearest person and you dont say "bless you", people look at you like your rude and it was your obligation to say it.

I don't know about others but I say it to be polite. I don't actually say it because I think that person will lose their soul, but rather as a polite gesture.

It's not superstition;-} just ancient culture.
People thought your breath was your spirit or soul.
It went in & out, keeping you alive.
When you sneezed they thought it was trying to escape.
That's why they said "Bless You."
