Are there any particular requiremnents for operating a process serving firm that delivers subpoenas? I've been thinking about it recently but there has to be a catch because it seems very easy.

It depends on the state, but usually you have to be licensed and bonded, and having a notary commission and/ or a legal background helps immensely.

The requirements vary by state -- some states require people to be bonded (insured) -- some require them to be licensed by the state -- but generally, anyone who is not a party to a lawsuit, and who can sign an affidavit verifying service can be a process server.
