I've been a Yankee fan since 1954. Joe Torre's exit is not a big deal. He was a great manager. He managed great players. The club had great achievements. But guys, understand one thing, BASEBALL IS ENTERTAINMENT! It's no different than football. It's no different than basketball. It's no different than hockey. They're all entertainment. The problem is that it is so hyped up now by people that's only interest is your money, and they will go to no ends to get your money, whether it be through cable television, stadium seating or corporate deals. Where I live there are seven sports channels that run 24-7 and have to blather on about something concerned with sports or they don't get a paycheck. Geez, wouldn't that too bad. Go out and get an honest job. They're like the telephone calls you get at dinner time that want to sell you something you don't need. Baseball will survive. I will miss Joe Torre, and the Yankees will again achieve the greatness they have experienced in the past. It may not be immediate because the game is so diluted now, thanks to agents, lawyers, and lawsuits, but it will happen.

I have to assume that the Yankees will still be a playoff team next year.
Unfortunately for anyone that does take this job has some huge shoes to fill, and as Randy Levine has pointed out a World Series title is expected. Anything less by the new manager and it's a failure.
I feel bad for Mattingly or Girardi if they become the manager because they are doomed to fail unless the title comes home next year.
This was a horrible, horrible mistake. All Yankee fans should be sad that this day has come.

It may depend on what happens to the players. If you take away Rivera, Posada, Rodriguez and Pettitte, that's a lot of talent to lose in a year.
But I doubt everyone will bolt. The Yankees still have a ton of resources, so they probably will be fine in the near future.

The Yankees will finish 3rd in the A.L. east. Behind Tampa and Boston.
The Devil Rays {Or whatever there new is going to be} will win the division and the Red Sox will get the Wild Card.
The Devil Rays will be the WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS.

They will not make the playoffs next year. After the fiasco Steinbrenner just pulled, the yankees deserve to tank for a while.
