I am a mother of two, 22 yrs old, monogomous and all together healthy, I am getting off the shot because of the nasty side affects. I am very apt to get the side affects from birth control and dislike them, especially the ones that say weight gain, so I ask you ladies which birth control worked for you?

Personally, for ME, I prefer not to put any fake hormones into my body. Therefore I don't have to worry about the risks involved or the side effects; my husband had a vasectomy instead.

The patch is the only way to go for me. I am like you and the hormones really affect my body so I have to be careful of which method I use. I have been on the patch for a couple years and haven't had problems. The only thing I notice with it is that sometimes the skin itches where the patch is. I will take that over wieght gain and nausia any day. I have tried the pill (forgot to take it often), the ring (wouldn't stay in place and I felt like I was going crazy on it because I was so over emotional but I have heard a lot of people say they really like it), the shot (terrible birth control, gained 20 pounds in three months). Another form that you might look into if you are not planning on having another child for a while would be the IUD Merena (or something like that). They won't put it in me because I have not had a child but it is effective for up to 5 years but can be taken out before that if you want to have another child. That might be something to look into as well but for me I prefer the patch.

Since you've a mother (and presumably given birth vaginally) you should consider an IUD like mirena. While they're not pleasant to have inserted, they tend to be pretty low in side effects and very effective. They don't contain any hormones, which is probably what is causing your side effects. Also, you don't have to remember to take a pill everyday!

You could get an IUD (intrauterine devce).
They are very effective and if you decide to have another baby you only have to get it removed.
Here's a web site for the one I see most commonly in my patients. Mirena is an IUC (intrauterine contraception), sort of like an IUD but it releases levonorgestrel. However, the side affects are very minimal for most women. Most women say they decrease menstrual flow as well.

There is a copper IUD, which does NOT release hormones. However, it may increase bleedng and cramping with your period. You can read about it here http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/birth-control/BI99999/PAGE=BI00023
Both are discussed here:

You can always try something new if the first thing doesn't work for you. It's not lie it is forever.....unlike a child.

From my knowledge the two best methods are either the patch or the pill. It depends on your preference. Can you remember to take a pill everyday at the same time? Or, Can you remember to replace a patch once a week? The side effects are the same but for the patch weight gain is not as susceptible.

i might bypass with the IUD if I have been you. I had the Mirena IUD for 3 years, and function these days had it bumped off to objective for infant variety 2. The IUD exchange into painless to get in, I had it put in at my 6 week examine up after my daughter exchange into born. that's risk-free to apply in case you're nursing your new child, and it lasts for 5 years!!! Plus you do not could difficulty approximately pills or something. the only think of i did not comprehend once I have been given the Mirena is that's can take awhile to your menstral cycles to return to widely used after having the IUD bumped off. I had mine bumped off in December 2008, and interior the previous couple months my cycles have finally back to widely used, different than that, I relatively propose the IUD!

Ortho Novum 777
I started using it when I was 15. I am now 35. Not one scare or accident! It keeps me regulated- 3 days tops! I love it! Don't like the generic version of it though! They say it is the same, but SOMETHING is different! I use the name brand stuff! Generic everything else, but I don't screw around with the birth control!!

I took Yasmin for a long time and it didn't have any terrible side effects for me. The only one that bugged me at all was a little bit a nausea. But there was no weight gain, break outs, or fatigue for me.

I too was on depo (four years of hell!), I went to Kariva immediately and got my periods back in three months and have had NO side affects (but it varies from person to person).
No weight gain, no moodiness, etc.
Been on Kariva for almost 2 years.
