What color do you like better? Powder blue or red?

I'd say UCLA because it's cheaper. In most other respects, the schools are really comparable in terms of education. What were you planning to study, anyway?

I went to USC for grad school. 3 semesters in a masters program cost more than the 4 YEARS I spent at UC Berkeley.

When I was checking out colleges, I really liked UCLA's campus, but I absolutely hated Westwood. In general, I don't like LA, but I *really* hate West LA. USC is in a dodgy neighborhood just south of downtown. Both student populations are heinously preppy (as a former goth kid this is not the kind of environment I wanted to be in), and USC is bigger on Greek life than UCLA.

I will say this: if you are an accomplished student, USC is very generous with financial aid. The legacies and rich kids basically pay for your education.

So, why aren't you considering Berkeley?

Depends on what you are doing and do you have to pay for it or do you have scholarship opportunities....If you have to pay and all you are getting is a bachelors then I say UCLA, you can always go onto post grad with a specific area of specialty. If you have a specific area of study or interest that one specializes in over the other then go to that school.
