Nowadays Russia and Europe have not so much in common, although some parts of Russia are in Europe. I don´t like Russia so much as Russia occupied my country Finland in 1939 and many hundred of thousands of our soldiers died.

Russia is getting richer and richer (due to it´s oil) and many Russians come here to live or for holidays. We live quite well here too and as Russia is our neighbour country in the east, it´s easy for them to come over here (and for us to go there). I´m quite negative now, but I´d like to say that the Russian culture before Stalin and Lenin, was quite amazing. Think of all the painters, composers (Tjaikovski, Stravinsky and many others), authors like Tjehov, Dostojevski etc. So Russia has had a great culture that has influcenced not just Europe, but the whole world. There are amazing old buildings over there too.Besides the above Europe and Russia don´t have much more in common, except for of course the European royalties (woman who married the tsars of Russia before they were killed by the communists. Sure some hundred years ago, Russia and their tsars had much in common with Europe.) From 1809-1917 Finland was a part of Russia, but we had our own government and was fortunate to have 3 rather nice Russian tsars as our leaders. They did not interfere so much in the political life of Finland. (Sorry for the long "story." .)

By the way President Putin is a guy we wouldn´t like to see use the political power for not so long anymore, but we are quite sure he will be the next Prime Minister over there. Well there you had a history lecture about Russia/Finland. Russia is also different from Europe by not being a democracy even if Putin likes us to think so!

I´m sure though that it´s worth to visit for instance the Russian city St.Petersburg, it´s a beautiful old city. I can also say that the ordinary Russian people are quite nice and friendly!
