i'll be driving from nashville to seattle at the end of november. i have a few different routes i can choose from. I40 and then north - would maybe be the safest but also add an extra day to the travel. Otherwise, i'm thinking to head towards St. Louis and from there i can take 70 West and then north, or wedge my way up to I80 and then north, or just head up to I90 and take that all the way.

I'm thinking end of November will be hit or miss, it might still be doable weather or it might be cold/wintery and snowy.

any suggestions would be helpful - thank you

Thanks to the era of Global Warming - I-40 West to I-15 South to I-5 North is the best chance of avoiding snow.

If you're considering taking I-90, pay attention to the weather reports for Montana and the Pacific Northwest (specifically the mountain passes - Lookout, Homestake, and Pipestone in MT and Snoqualmie in WA). If it looks bad, consider taking I-70 or I-80 rather than I-90.

Another possibility is to get to Salt Lake City, then take I-84 west to Portland, and then I-5 north to Seattle. That way avoids driving through a mountain pass in the Cascades, but the Columbia River Gorge is usually windy and can be nasty if it also gets icy.

In general, keep the alternate routes in mind, pay attention to the weather, be prepared to take extra time if you have to, and you should be fine.

i would go to AAA and have them suggest a route to you. they have always been extremely helpful with car trips for me in the past.
