You can NOT eat for a long time....your body does lose muscle and of course, fat when it thinks in it's position for survival....it uses up all your body's resources to make up for not eating...If you have a horrible diet (as I did before when I was dieting) your hair can fall out in a big way, and for me, I developed a low thyroid..your metabolism slows way down too to help you survive.

As far as water or fluids go, you can only live a couple days....with food, you also have water intake so if you're eating, I suppose that you are getting SOME fluid.

Did you ever notice that when you are in the hospital, they put you on IV fluids (just saline usually) so that you don't get dehydrated....that's how important it is to drink lots of water a day....it also flushes out your body for impurities.

I say eat enough that you get at least 1200 cals per day if dieting, watch your portions and if you lose 1-2 pounds a week, it's great, and it will stay off. But drink those fluids or it will dehydrate you....play it safe and listen to your body.

Take care....

Definitely not 7 days. It took Bobby Sands 66 days to die when he went on his hunger strike.

There are plenty of cases....

"In October 1920, the Lord Mayor of Cork Terence MacSwiney, died on hunger strike in Brixton prison. Two other Cork IRA men, Joe Murphy and Michael Fitzgerald also died on hunger strike in this protest. The Guinness Book of Records lists the world record in hunger strike (without forced feeding) as 94 days, which was set from August 11 to November 12, 1920 by John and Peter Crowley, Thomas Donovan, Michael Burke, Michael O'Reilly, Christopher Upton, John Power, Joseph Kenny and Seán Hennessy at the prison of Cork. Arthur Griffith called off the strikes after the deaths of MacSwiney, Murphy and Fitzgerald"

You die in 3 days without water. You can go without eating for about 30 days depending on your size and body weight, etc.~

you can go without food for A LOT longer than without water.
I don't know whether it's exactly 7 days, but that sounds about right.
