I was involved in building most to all of the homes in the ******* area since about 1983. They are a bunch of crap. Most of them have never been inspected, the wiring done for a big part was never done by electricians, one large project was wired by a computer tech out of work.
The Mexicans building the houses didn't know how to use a ruler, had to be watched all the time.
The new home owners would cringe at what they saw behind their walls, they wouldn't believe it.

I would guess in time to come, some of these homes that have been selling for two million, that aren't worth 85 thousand, are going to start falling apart. One friend that bought a 850 thousand dollar home had to get out. The home was falling apart. The two toilets were as far as two inches off center from the plumbing in the floor. The pipes were pulling apart.

I could tell you horror stories about these homes but, that's the way they wanted them built and the inspectors were there watching us, they never said a word, only went to smoke more pot with the supervisors.

There is the right way, and the cheap way to do things. Trouble is, the cheap way usually ends up being the wrong way. then it's not cheap anymore, because you have to tear it all out and do it right!! this usually ends up costsing three times more than if you did it the right way, in the first place!

There are all kinds of contractors ou there that will cut as many corners as they can to make an illegal buck!! they make the house look nice on the ihside, and where you can see, but the substructure and what you DON'T see is where the trouble starts. That's why we have building codes, and inspectors.

it just boggles my mind the stuff some contractors get away with!!!

Most people dont realize it but their homes now a days are built for quick and cheap construction. Remember cheapest bid usually wins. That is why new houses can not take a twister or hurricane like the old ones built by our forfathers. It is also another reason home insurance is high.

Most people are oblivious or dont care.

I'm from a family who were in home construction for about 50 years and I've seen the decline in quality. If you go today and see one of our homes it is still in great shape, but the newer homes are falling apart in no time at all. I'm always shocked.

Not really!!! Yeah the materials in most cases are crap. But some of us in the building and remodeling profession are working on improving or using only the best products.
