The calculus of living paycheck to paycheck in America is getting harder. What used to last four days might last half that long now. Pay the gas bill, but skip breakfast. Eat less for lunch so the kids can have a healthy dinner.
Across the nation, Americans are increasingly unable to stretch their dollars to the next payday as they juggle higher rent, food and energy bills. It's starting to affect middle-income working families as well as the poor, and has reached the point of affecting day-to-day calculations of merchants like Wal-Mart Stores Inc., 7-Eleven Inc. and Family Dollar Stores Inc.

A lot of what you have said is from inflation; with the way our taxes and our countries money is being spent, or is going to be spent, causes this. With the social security crisis coming, and the war, it doesn't seem to be getting better. When a democrat is in office, however, it will get much better for the middle class and the poor. Bill Clinton, a democrat, brought us out of debt and made many poor families a lot richer, than the previous president's doing. The previous president, of course, being a Republican named George Bush Sr.
Ha! The United States is far from the greatest nation on this earth. Many European countries are thriving above us now. We like to think we are though, we like to be naive about it.

When I was growing up in the CARTER administration, my family ate vegetable soup because we couldn't afford beef.
Now, we have steak whenever we want, and I am SOLIDLY middle-class.
Of course, I don't have a Hummer or an SUV or a mini-van, b/c those things are stupid.
If people can't go from paycheck to paycheck, it's b/c they are financial morons.

Welcome to Bush economics.
BTW--this is not your imagination. The income gap between the wealthy and the poor is now higher than it has been at any time since the 1920s. You've seen enough headlines about home foreclosures, spent enough money at the gas pump (while Exxon makes $10 billion a quarter in profit) to know what that actually means in practice.
But cheer up--look at all the profits that are being made with imports of contaminated products made by child labor in China! The billions in profit going to Haliburton annd Bush's other corporate friends--who didn't have to bother to bid for contracts as the law requires.
Etc., etc., etc.
America is nevertheless the greatest country in the world--and as soon as we finish what we started last November and kiick the rest of this corrupt bunch of crooks out, we can return to the greatness tha tis America as she should be.

a lot of human beings in this usa won't be able to manage to pay for to attend college. extreme college does no longer something to prepare cutting-edge graduates for the reality of on the on the spot's society. What the protection pressure does, is provide a particularly mandatory source of discipline, which any civilian employer will require. It can also, now and again tutor skills that are useable contained in the civilian international, and it nonetheless aspects the G.I. bill the position you may acquire a school degree in case you opt for. i do not believe sending extreme college drop outs and felons to the protection pressure. the skills are in basic terms too complicated. some careers now require enlistees have a Masters degree to enter particular fields. The down aspect is evidently..........that is the protection pressure. you should wrestle, and die on your usa. you may take convenience contained in the very undeniable truth that you aren't any more the first and also you in basic terms isn't the finest. both way, you'll nonetheless be in basic terms as useless.

I am an American and my husband is in the military, but if you want my honest opinion from seeing around the world, the USA is the most selfish, spoiled, and sinful nation. I love my country and my freedom, but I am just making an observation from what I have seen world wide and those that have also been outside the US can relate to what I am seeing. So what is so great about the US you ask. The only thing in todays day and time, is our freedom of religion!

Yes but we are in trouble because people don't vote and the rest of us just let things slide. We let organizations like the ACLU destroy America making us weak and decadent, and there's a thousand more.

If you want to succeed and feed your family healthy meals... then you can. I have a 1yr old and yes, I am struggling a little. But I know damn well that I can do better, and I am in that process right now. People who are poor do not see farther a head and dont have goals for themselves. They just take their life like it is and think thats the end.
I am so sick and tired of hearing about this.... its the land of oportunity and its EVERYWHERE! They just choose not to look for it.
Edit:
Oh and sorry.... but having a democrat in office will only cause the nation to raise taxes for welfare and government aid programs. Some people need them, yes, but I have seen TONS of people who take that for granted - keep having babies - keep faking injuries, holy crap!
I work my *** off and I prevail.... without being aided by the government even though I am qualified for those programs, i dont touch them!

The US is the best nation on earth. The US is really great. I was able to retire early, in 2002, thanks to the good economy. My net worth has increased every year since then. I have no trouble saving money.
Maybe you are just not good at managing money. Don't blame the US for your percieved shortcoming.
