Every year..............

Sheesh

OK.

The masks are immaterial to the plot. They are masks, that is all.

Being Venetian, and wealthy, the Masques, and the masks, would be elaborate. Half-face, and shielding the eyes.

Apparently, Shakespearean characters were completely incapable of recognizing each other while hiding behind a plaster half-face mask. The theme of mistaken identity occurs in more than one play.

Opinion only, but would not the speech pattern and inflection give the imposter away? I mean, really, would the twinned Antipholi and Dromios really mistake one for the other?

But I digress.

Use half-masks that can allow you to speak coherently.

They were most likely half masks covering the top 2/3 of the face. They would likely have been of animals, though they could have resembled commedia masks.
