Quite a few spiders can jump, often as a defensive or escape maneuver, but only certain kinds of spiders jump to attack or capture prey. The best-known are not surprisingly known as jumping spiders; they tend to have rectangular 'head' parts (='cephalothorax') with 2 big eyes in the front, and tear-drop-shaped abdomens, and often have lots of fur and bright colors and patterns. They also often seem very alert and responsive, which makes them more "friendly" to people who normally don't much care for spiders - more pet-like, I guess.
