What is the problem??? Potatoes don't need to be peeled. Most of the vitamins are in the skin so this is a normal thing to do. Next time ask so you know if they peel their taters or not when your order mashed at a restaurant.

I am a Chef and that is not uncommon. I worked a fine dinning rest. in Atlanta and their russet mashed potatoes are excellent. Don't freak out on the cook authenticity was his goal or perhaps lazy. The rest. that i work at now the guests hated the skin on so we make them with it off. This works great with a good potatoe. But if it was a bad then you are not a skin on potato foodie are you.

yea, its delicious.
When I make mashed potatoes, I leave some skin on them.
There's a lot of nutrients in the skin.
As to what the cook said, I guess he's very defensive about people thinking he uses mashed potatoes from the box??

Lots of people cooks with the skins of the potato cause that is where you gets the real vitamins. It is not cause the potato is real but for health purposes. Although some likes the potato peeled.

Don't be so picky, whole potatoes properly cooked and then mashed with milk and butter, are more wholesome than the powdered variety, which are becoming increasingly more common in the low end establishments. If you enjoyed them and were not charged extra, wheres the problem?. I eat apples, pears, plums, etc without peeling them.

I love them that way. When I make a lot of mashed potatoes to bring to a potluck dinner, I make most of it using powdered potatoes. I also cook a few unpeeled potatoes and then mash them into the dish with the powdered ones. Everyone who eats them says they are glad I used real potatoes instead of powdered ones They say they can tell because of the pieces of skin in there.

I depends on what type of potato it was. If it was the red potatoes then that is common to serve them that way. If it was the regular baking potatoes then that is just weird. I personally use red potatoes in my mashed potatoes and leave the skin. They serve it like that in a lot of restaraunts as well.

I guess all these answers must be surprising. Most everyone seems to have tried mashed potatoes with their skins still on. I never have but now I'm sure to give it a try.
Thanks for asking this question. We've both learned something new!

Yes, many places do that. Especially a more upscale restourant. I make them that way at home sometimes as well. I do not leave all of the skin on because I do not think it needs that much. It also adds a bit of texture to the food. SOme people like the taste of potato skins.

It's not a stupid question. Any question that you ask sincerely is never stupid.
The first time I got served mashed potatoes with the peels, I reacted the same way. I don't like them like that but there are many people who do.
(((hugs)))
