i want to either remove the color or lighten the color of my blue jeans so i can dye them a different color. how?

With all due respect; and while I can't imagine not buying white denim in the first place; OR the specific color if available? Commercial products or home remedies might only get you to a point of Pale blue. I'm certain a custom color might be your notion.
Certainly that depends in part on the BRAND.
Bleach; initially at least but NOT straight bleach.
Lemon Juice, not from the yellow, plastic squeeze things. It was often used in Prisons, and prison camps to "bleach" out the general population uniforms; by those attempting escapes.

rit color remover you can find them at walmart target and other retail store .

Get some bleach, but it will take several washes, before you see much of a result.
