I have a PC that has a GeForce 7950GT video card installed. It has support for 2 monitors. I just added a second monitor and used the NVidia Control Panel to set it up.

It set it up as spanned horizontally, but I do not want this. What I really want to do is use my primary monitor the way is is now (displaying the full task bar and desktop, etc.) and use the second monitor as basically a place to store things (IM, email, temperatures, etc.) so that I can still view them when I have a full screen application running on my primary monitor.

I do not want the display to be spanned across both monitors...if that happens, only half of full screen apps appear on each monitor and I don't have the second monitor right beside the primary.

Can I achieve this through the NVidia Control Panel, or do I need to configure it another way?

It is easier to simply do it through the display properties - settings tab.

If it is set up properly, you should see two seperate monitors in the gray area on the screen.

From there, you click on the "2" monitor and check the "extend my windows desktop to this monitor".

From there, you can click on the monitor and drag it to where you want it to be located in relation to the primary monitor.

If you do not see the two monitors, try installing the latest video drivers for your video card.
