If you give a best answer shouldn't it be five. I always give five, why can't I get five??? I don't want best answer if I get one stinking star out of five---that's a pity vote! Really what is that about???

You may be right with the "that's a pity vote" comment. Granted it doesn't mean you didn't give a really excellent answer, it just may mean that the people who's questions you answered are either looking for someone that whole heartedly agrees with them.
It's also possible that they are using some off the wall "system" for judging answers. I'm sure that there are people on here who approach the answers they receive from a variety of perspectives. For example sincerity, effort, clarity, originality, creativeness, grammatical correctness, etc.
(As a side note I'm not sure I even managed to structure that sentence correctly. My apologies!)
To each their own on that front. But that shouldn't discourage you from answering, or make you feel that you are answering people inadequately. It just means that for whatever reason they felt like you made an effort and were on the right track, at least more so than anyone else.
I know that I personally like to answer some questions on here as a challenge to think differently about something, or as a mental work out to remember things that I "know" but have forgotten through lack of use. Outside of that, this is meant to be fun! :)

I give 5 as well...
The 5 "stars" dont give the answerer points... its the thumbs up that do.
Yes, its a nice and pleasant thing to do and it is a real morale booster in many cases, but it has absolutely no effect on the answerer's point score.
I also try to Thumbs-up the Best Answer before I pick it, so the answerer is insured AT LEAST 11 points (10 for BA, and 1 for TU)

I never understood that myself. Doling out the stars like they're cash or something and being stingy to boot! You get best answer from me it's 5 all the way!
