It certainly bothers me, I don't want to look through crappy pop groups when I'm looking for good music. I also think that they should have seperate sections for metal and rock, but since many people think that bands such as sum 41 and linkin park are metal then they'd end up being in the metal section for some stupid reason.

I'm glad that asking this question has bothered you. I wanted to see responses for myself since I have never seen this question asked.

Well, Stephen, rap is always very popular and it is never in the "pop and rock" section.

It bothers me that this question is constantly asked.

And there's no point in making a metal section, which would ultimately attract less people.

Yes, it bothers me.
And I have answered this question at least 5 times in the last two weeks.

So I'll give you the same answer I always give!

Part of the problem is that even record stores these days don't know the difference between Rock and Pop.

Even if the two do get seperated, then 'Rock' needs to be split somewhat :~

Rock n' Roll {1950's}
Classic Rock {anything that originated in the 60's & 70's}
Prog Rock
Glam Rock
80's Rock
90's+ Rock
Metal

And then we also need categories for :~

Celtic
Folk / Folk Rock
Acoustic / Acoustic Rock
World
Jazz / Swing
Blues
New Age

Someone's a little feisty today.

On the other hand, it's true it will never happen. You'd end up subcategorizing into black metal, death metal, heavy metal. It just depends on what you're looking for. I get it though, I hate looking through stupid bands to get to the good ones. It would be too complicated. Although I guess rock/pop is too narrow.. Ah well.

Yes it bothers me. I love rock, but hate pop and I really hate it when people ask questions like name your favorite classic rock song and people name a nickleback song or something from matchbox twenty. Also I am really sick of seeing people asking for Hanna Montana tickets. I mean come on enough is enough. So yes to answer your question it really bothers me. They are two completely different subjects and should be separated.

Yes, it's irritating to go through the teeny bopper posts!!!!!! I wish they had a section for oldies as well. Because I'm, well, old, and I rarely find any music that reflects my taste on here.

well pop generqally means popular music and rock seems to be the most popular music at the moment
the people who decide genre names just havent come up with a new name for the music that used to be popular but now only very strange, annoying people listen to
