Yes and Yes. I've kept native fish (minnows, sunfish, darters, catfish, and others). Not just worms but other parasites and baterial and fungal conditions too.

If looking to keep natives in an aquarium (as in wildcaught fish or unused bait), you should quarantine them for 2-3 weeks first to make sure they're healthy.

If you're looking for feeder fish (any species), you're best off if you raise you own. Fathead minnows (rosy reds) are one of the easiest and a better source of nutrition for fish than goldfish or guppies.
