It's kind of hard to eliminate the problem entirely, speaking from personal experience. I've had friends tell me that waxing reduces the the inflammation and slows regrowth. My own "experimentation" has shown that a home blend of Hydrocortisone cream, Neosporin (or similar "triple anit-biotic" ointment) and acne cream (uncolored cream, not the tinted paste) applied to the area for a couple of days after you shave is also good for reducing the rash and speeding healing. Sometimes, if the itch gets more annoying than usual, I'll add a little clotrimazole cream (usually used for jock itch and athlete's foot). I will also usually powder the area with a dusting of medicated body powder for comfort's sake, since just leaving the cream combo makes things a tad sticky. I mix roughly a pencil eraser size amount of each cream together and rub it into the area, then a light coat of the medicated powder. Seems to work for me, and I don't see anything wrong with shaving the pubic area if you choose to do so, unlike some of the other responders. Hope this helps.

try using conditioner (for ur hair) as opposed to using shaving cream. make sure u have a sharp razor. some would suggest shaving with the grain but i find i can go against the grain AFTER FIRST going with the grain. as far as avoiding a rash, afterwards wash area with hot water use one of those loofa things or whatever they're called. exfoliate the area and clean very well. after the shower or bath i normally use an astringent (will sting like hell esp the first time) or an aftershave. make sure to keep clean between shavings. good luck

A much easier solution is just to not shave so close. Shave with the direction the hair grows, not against it. You will not get quite as close a shave, but you won't get any bumps or ingrown hairs either.

well unless you have time to shave it every day, it's better to just trim it to a comfortable length

that hair is there for a reason, don't shave it.
