^ commonly represents "to the power of."

1. 2 11/12 - 1 13/18
Step #1
write the problem like;
2 11/12
-1 13/18
_______
ok, now you have to find the least common denominator, which is 36, so you can make them the same
Step #2
now, you will be working with the fraction part of the mixed number ONLY

To change the 11/12 to a fraction with the denominator being 36, multiply both of the numbers in 11/12 by 3, because 12 x 3 = 36

the fraction will now look like this:

33/36
now thats the first fraction

Now to change 13/18 to a fraction with the denominator being 36
multiply both numbers in the fraction 13/18 by 2, because 18x2=36
so the fraction should now look like this;
26/36

Step #3
now that you have made both of the fraction have the same denominator, you can finally rewrite the problem

2 33/36
-1 26/36
_________

Step #4
subtract the 2-1
then subtract the 33/36 from the 26/36 to get the answer of.....

1 7/36
Tada!

2. 3/8 x 2/3 divided 4
Step #1
multiply 3/8 x 2/3 out like this...
3 2 6
_x_ = _

8 3 24

so the answer is 6/24
the reduced answer is 1/4

Step #2
divide 1/4 and 4 and get 1 as your final answer

3.) 3/2 x 1/3 x 4/5
multiply the denominators together so you get 30 as the denominators and multiply the numbers, so you get 12,
so the fraction now says............
12/30 as the answer
2/5 as the reduced answer

4. 3/2 x 1/3
Step # 1
all you have to do is multiply the denominators and the numerators and then write it as a fraction
so it will look like this;
3/6
the answer is 3/6
the reduced answer is 1/2

5.) 3/2 divided by 1/3 + 4/5
Step #1
first thing to do is focus on the 1/3 and the 4/5
Step #2
change the denominators so that they are the same
the least common denominator if 15
so multiply the fraction 1/3 by 5 so the fraction now says
5/15
and change the other fraction, 4/5 by multiplying both the numerator and the denominator by 3
so the fraction now says.....
12/15

Step #3
rewrite the problem with the new fractions;
5/15 + 12/15 divided by 3/2
Step #4
add the 5/15 and the 12/15 to get;
Step #5
3/2 by 17/15 is the problem now
now, to divide the fraction, you have to do the reciprocal of 17/15, which is 15/17
Step #6
the problem should now say
3/2 x 15/17
now, multiply the 3 and the 15, which are the numerators, and the 2 and the 17, which are the denominators and you will get the final answer of
45/34, which is also the reduced answer

1) 3/5 + 1/3 First, find a common denominator. Easiest way is to multiply the 5 and the 3. So that means your common denominator is 15. Multiply 3/5 by 3 and 1/3 by 5. 3(3) / 15 + 5(1) / 15 =9/15 + 5/15 =14/15 2.) 3/5 - 1/3 Common denominator = 15 Multiply 3/5 by 3 and 1/3 by 5 = 9/15 - 5/15 = 4/15 3.) 3/5 x 1/3 Method one: Multiply horizontally. (3 x 1) and (5 x 3) = 3/15 Can be reduced by divide 3 to top and bottom. = 1/5 Method two: 3/5 x 1/3 Cancle out the 3's = 1/5 x 1/1 = 1/5 4.) 3/5 divided by 1/3 Whenever you are dividing, you must reciprocate the second term. That means you flip (1/3) into (3/1). Then you multiply. 3/5 x 3/1 = 9/5 5) 1/3 + 5/6 Common denominator = 6 Multiply 1/3 by 2 =2/6 + 5/6 = 7/6

^ means 'to the power of'
i.e. 2^3=2 to the power of 3 =8

1) 211/12-113/18=(633-226)/36=407/36.
2) 3/8 * 2/3 divided by 4 = 3/8 * 2/3 * 1/4= 1/16
3) 3/2 * 1/3 * 4/5=2/5
4) 3/2 * 1/3 divided by 4/5 = 3/2 * 1/3 * 5/4 =5/8
5) 3/2 divided by 1/3+4/5 = 3/2*1/(1/3+4/5)=3/2*15/17=45/34
6)(3/2+1/3)*4/5 = 11/6*4/5 = 22/15.

^ means to the power of.

for the addition of fraction, you need to find the LCM of the denominator (spelling ?)

11/12 - 13/18 = 33/26 - 26/36 = (33-26)/36
something like that.

it is much more easier for multiplication of fraction, please check your book.

The ^ symbol means 'raised to the power of', so x^2 means x squared.

These aren't algebra problems, they are just simple arithmetic. You should be able to manage them.
