Question

what is s s - 4 over 7 = negative 2 over 3.

what is m negative 7 over 8 + m = negative 2 over 5

what is f 5 over 12 + f = negative 2

these dont make any sense but if you can answer them then do it please

If this is what you meant for the problem:
s-4....-2

Cross multiply to solve.

3(s - 4) = -2(7).
3s - 42 = -14
3s = 28
s = 28/3


OR, if this is what you meant:
.......4......-2
s.-.-----.=.---
.......7.......3

Multiply every term by 21:

..........21(4)......21(-2)
21s.-.--------.=.----------
.............7.............3

This simplifies to:

21s - 12 = -14
21s = -2
s = -2/21

m - 7......-2
-------- = ----
8 + m.......5

Cross multiply to find m.

5(m - 7) = -2(8+ m)
5m - 35 = -16 - 2m
7m - 35 = -16
7m = 19
m = 19/7

....5
-------- = -2
12 + f

Multiply both sides by 12 + f

5(12+f)
-------- = -2(12 + f)
12 + f

5 = -24 - 2f
29 = -2f
-29/2 = f

These problems are asking you to solve for the variable or unknown, i.e. "s", "m", "f" & "x"

(s-4)/7= -2/3
multiply both sides by 7 to get s-4 = -14/3
add 4 to both sides to get s = -4 2/3 + 4
s = -2/3

The idea is to get rid of the the fraction & then solve the equation.

m=9 and 1/2
f=-14.5
