It is not recommended for the life of your laptop battery, but if you need to do that, you can do it... In consecuence you may need in moment to replace your battery if you would like to use it "UNplugged"...

I leave mine on 24/7... I have the screen set to turn off in 5 minutes if there is no activity so there won't be image burn on my screen.
It will get really sluggish after about two weeks, so when that happens, I just restart and it's as good as new.
flash on the screen... no idea. Might want to have that looked at.
Your battery will start to decrease in charge over time. I just leave my laptop plugged in all the time... so this is never an issue for me. Oh and your battery will last different lengths depending on a few factors. If the wireless is on or off and if your screen is dimmed you will get much more out of the battery.
:)

It will eventually hurt your computer if you keep it plugged in because the more it's plugged in the less time the battery can hold. It's kinda like your forcing the battery to go into the computer when it can't fit. But if only charge it when its less than 20 or 10% you should be OK. My computer is only 2 monthes old, and I bought an additional battery so it holds up to 7 hrs. (also I don't always keep it plugged in) Your battery should hold up to at least 2 or 3 hrs. If not don't plug it in as much. I have no idea what the flash your seeing is though.

Yes you can leave it on 24/7, WITHOUT doing damage but I would suggest either setting it to turn off screen, or setting it not to do anything when you close the screen and just close the screen when you ain't using it.
Although laptops are prone to overheating so i would suggest buying a cooling bay. Maplin sells these. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=1&ModuleNo=45656&doy=20m10
They are around £30.
Also Windows will become slower over time but regular restarts should help this, and it will happen anyway even if it ain't on all the time.
Lastly the most common cause of the screen flashing is your graphics drivers. Find out what graphics support it is and download and install the drivers again.

You can leave your laptop "on" but set it to go to sleep if not used for so many minutes to save the life of the LCD panel. I recently had to have my screen replaced the laptop was about 18 months old at the time. Thank goodness I had purchased the repair plan! However it will only cover one LCD screen change... I usually close my laptop when I am done to put it to sleep...
The battery life probably depends on the type of battery you have... The one that comes with your laptop may last for an hour or two. The life time of a battery is probably a couple of years....

My laptop is a little older than yours, a Dell Inspiron B130. I leave it on pretty much all the time, but I also keep it plugged in pretty much all the time (I don't like how dim the screen is when running on just the battery). I get about two hours of battery life when I am unplugged. Sorry, no idea about the flash you're seeing.

I have my laptop on only when I am using it. My battery lasts 2 hours (for an HP Pavilion) Not sure about a flash, but my screen gets bright every time I plug it in to recharge the battery. I can make it go dim again with the controls.

I only turn my laptop off at night. Powering on and off is worse than leaving it run.
The flash could be related to your battery.
Check and make sure your battery is not under a RECALL. Battery should last about 2-3 years.
I plug my laptop in whenever possible. This extends the battery life.
P.S. - Windows XP can run for an extended period of time - like weeks and months.

You CAN leave it on all you want. SHOULD you? Probably not. Laptops are made to run with low powers and small cases usually they can get pretty hot. Plus I don't know if Windows is made to be running ALL the time. It needs a reboot every so often. I honestly didn't think a screen should dim much all. Maybe by 5-10 years?

Its never a good idea to leave a comp on all the time laptop or desktop, esp a laptop. They dont cool as effiecently as desktops do, so i might overheat. Your screen shouldnt go out after 10 months, hopefully you have a warrenty. Battery really depends on the comp you bought.
