No, in your example there really WERE ants in the house.
Better analogy: "Invading Iraq to wage war on terrorism is akin to burning a house down to get rid of poison ivy and weapons of mass infestation of germs from dead roosters."

Not really a good analogy, considering that before we invaded, Iraq had nothing to do with Al-Quaeda, and, in fact, had kept them out, whereas after we invaded, Al-Quaeda moved in and turned it into a training ground and recruitment tool. So it's more like filling your uninfested house with unwrapped Twinkies in order to get rid of ants.

Close but it doesn't quite work because it doesn't really include the absurdity of attacking a secular regime and only focuses on the overreaction.
I'd say it's like shooting anteaters in an effort to get rid of the ants
