Speaking to the future, overall, the Asian population will encounter more diversity within itself, within smaller areas, than experienced in Asia. Interaction and solidarity between the different ethnic/linguistic/cultural/socio-economic groups of Asian heritage will increase; dividing lines recognized in Asia will become less essential and more permeable. Of course, there will also be reactionary segments advocating the consciousness and strengthening of those dividing lines, whether to preserve cultural identity, or for other reasons. On the other side are individuals of Asian heritage who dive into the American "melting pot," and choose to minimize their self-identification as a member of a distinct Asian "community," in other words, assimilate.
