I know I sound like a wuss lol, which I probably am. My friends have all played the resident evil games, and i have most of them from my brothers and whatnot. But whenever I put the disc in the machine and turn it on I get too freaked out lol. I do have quite an overactive imagination so I think about how scary it is too much when it probably actually isn't, and I have obsessive compulsive disorder which doesn't really help as you can guess :) Any tips/anything will be great. thanks.

Yeah, I guess some people don't scare as easily as others. I wasn't going to try to play it to be like my friends, just as a personal challenge to see if I can. But I really can't and if I did I wouldn't enjoy it so.. Yeah. thanks.

What Cat Queen said was interesting about watching horror movies to get yourself de-sensitised. And I have watched some scary movies like The Grudge, but to me it's different because in a movie you can cover your eyes or whatever, but in a game I HATE survival lol cause you are responsible for if you die or not, you're more in control than if you're watching a movie.

A lot of people really think Silent Hill is hardcore huh? My brother played and I watched him play it but I wasn't that bothered. RE games are much scarier to me than silent hill 1. It was creepy like with the two alternate buildings and whatever, but the graphics weren't very good so it was all right.

You must be somewhat young. I remember how I was always nervous to go certain lengths in games when I was younger, & often times they were not nearly as scary either. For example, I was scared to death when I was 8 years old about to fight Ganondorf [the final boss] on Zelda: Ocarina of Time .. & that was just a pixelely N64 game!

Just try playing the beginning of the game a few times until you get used to the style & atmosphere of it. After a while, it won't bother you at all. You're just trying something new, & that's perfectly normal to be unused to .. good luck & I hope you beat it!!

There was a study printed about a year or two ago about how fear, even in video games, is real. Your mind does not know the difference between fear on a game and in real life.
Some people play because they want to be scared, there is a thrill to it. Every time you get a thrill from something you like to hate, like fear, it desensitizes you to that kind of fear. Play something scary if you want to get over irrational fears, take breaks, pause if you have to. The game isn't real, but the fear is, so play what you can handle. If your heart beats faster than 75% (find out how to determine heart rate and what your age can handle) then the game is too scary...
Most games now are crap, they play on what you see (one time shock value for those with under active imaginations), not what is implied (like older more scary movies that require imagination). RE games were good until the third, they became less scary and way more predictable.
If you truly want to desensitize yourself to 'that really scared feeling,' play the Original Silent Hill for Ps1( With a dualshock), turn out the lights, play through a stereo for max effect, and play alone... This is the ONLY game to ever truly scare me even after playing every other game available that was supposed to be scary, RE2 had a lot of moments, but none of the Dread of treading through the a dark and foggy town with no life by yourself found in SH, READ EVERYTHING and WATCH everything you come across in silent hill. If you can do this game you can do anything. A good less scary, one step down scary game, would be the Remake of Resident Evil (on gamecube).

Haha! This is really funny actually, because I just started a game of Resident Evil 4 last night. I wasn't scared though, so it was fine.

Why are you scared? Just remember it's fictional; there's no such thing as a zombie!

If you're really that afraid, just make sure you never play it alone.

I also advise you to steer very clear of Silent Hill. I have a high tolerance for gore and creepiness, but even that game is a bit much for me.

Good luck!

nicely i replaced into 12 once I first performed Resident Evil 4, the only frightening area is on the begining of the sport, after the 1st 5 minutes it unquestionably receives comical with how stupid issues are. The cutscenes in the process the sport are often frightening yet while your unquestionably taking part in it is not frightening. Now Code Veronica X is a daunting one. And it is not uncomplicated as hell. All you're able to do is get a shotgun and then blow regardless of comes close to you away.

Know how you feel! I used to be the first to play the resident evil games, and horror games etc.

I worry that ive become sensitised to it due to the fact that hardly ANYONE I know likes horror movies/games.

I haven`t finished playing Haunting Ground by Capcom yet, because im scared of it!!!

I used to be fine, but now im a big fairdy cat!

I need to focus.....face the fear...I will do it. someday

My advice, start by watching some horror movies etc to get yourself de-sensitised.

Although I REALLY do like the advice of playing some cheery music in the background!

lol Resident Evil isn't scary. But if you are, just think that you're a bad a** and get yourself pumped, saying you're gonna kill all the zombie betches :b

Silent Hill on the other hand is scary and creepy, but that's because they have much scarier music and you don't have all those cool guns.

Hope you over come those fears : )

dude just man up or don't play....well the only tips i could give you if you want to play anyways is obviously play with the lights on or play the game when someone is in the room with you. if you are thinking about it afterwards here is a little trick. my roomate's girlfriend used to be deathly afraid of horror movies so afterwards we would watch about 5 or 6 episodes of family guy and she would then completely forget about it. so after a game of resident evil why don't you watch whatever show amuses you the most. good luck!

OCD and an overactive imagination must make it easy to get lost inside movies and games. I know my imagination does that, I never finished the first Thief game cause the dark quiet, on-edge setting put my nerves on such edge that I just couldn't deal with the zombies. I swear somehow their rock-bottom pollygon count and poor animation made them even freakier.

but if you want to keep yourself from getting lost in the mood, put on some music in the background that distinctly doesn't match the game's mood.

My husband won't play Bioshock for X box unless I'm in the room with him. It just shows you're a sensitive soul who is a really lovely person. It means you are probably very good at relationships because you are in touch with your feelings. Don't play them if they upset you, find a game that you really enjoy instead.
