Very insecure people think that by getting away with things
they know to be wrong i.e.shoplifting, etc., their opinion
about themselves will be higher somehow...it's a secret,
nobody will know. It's a kind of desperate way to try and
have power over something in one's life. Of course, as
you've stated above, all it does is lower the already low
opinion one has of oneself....and that can keep spiralling
downward. It's like kicking society in the face...the same
society that perhaps ostracized you or a sort of secret
pay back for inattentive parents. There's a lot of reasons.
A little light counselling would help enormously. This is
nothing to be ashamed of, but could develop into a big
problem later in your life. Nip it in the bud. Making
restitutions for your acts will make you feel a lot better.
I had this happen to me recently. A really nice young girl
came into my store and we had a great conversation...
she tried on a few things and then left saying nothing was
really right....I noticed that a blouse was missing and was
really disappointed...she seemed so nice. About three
days later, she brought the top back with a card and some
flowers!!!!...saying how badly she felt about what she had
done. That was that and I'm sure she'll never do it again.
She's still welcome in my place. Forgive yourself, vow
never to repeat and go forth and thrive. Good luck.

I'll take the bait. I went to a meijer to shop only bought a few things. while I was self scanning (the cashier led me to the self scan not my idea) I scanned a book that I had come there especially for about daily aspirations. beautiful book but it sis not scan even though it was put in the bag. I got our of there with and and wondered why did I have to learn this lesson this way. I went to honor god but what did i do at the last minute? I let satin win. I am beginning to believe that that is okay because it as not as big as the sin of someone who totally lost their mind. I did not kill no one or hurt anyone. Just took a small text that I am sure is worth much less then what they are charging. I am not saying I'm right. But not as wrong as some of the time.

Because people are not a unified internally consistent things, they've different forces pulling them in different directions. I'm not going so far to say that people have split personalities, let me make that clear. But, the person you are today is different that the person you were yesterday. You're a little smarter than you were before and now you know not to do it again.

Also, a former professor of mine once told me that guilt was a useless emotion, just do what you can to make amends and repair any harm or hurt feelings and move on.

That is just how we learn things, temptations of things make you want to do things just to see what happens. You end up regreting them, then you usually don't do it again. Sometime just knowing things will end badly isn't enough, we have to see things first hand. If it were enough a lot of the things in our history books wouldn't be in there because every era seems to go through some of the same patterns, even when they know what happened the time before.

They do wrong because it's self gratifying which makes them blind to the reasons behind why it's wrong. Too often the guilt is masked behing justifications or scape-goating.

The guilt is the inner self pushing the individual to mature and overcome instant gratification for a better long term benefit.

You are only human... selfishness comes out.... Next time if YOU do not want this guilt feeling, thing of the consequences it will bring to you in the future... Since you are showing the signs of selfishness... Don't put yourself through this emotional state

Sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do. That's that. You're doing pretty well if you know the difference between right and wrong, that's more than a lot of people.

Because at the time you took a chance. It's OK to feel regret. Knowing what you'd rather have done means you've made progress!
