Alexander the Great, by he wasn't Greek he was Macedonian.
You ask why is he the greatest?
That' s easy . Aristotle was his teacher, he was never defeated in battle and his war strategies were later used by Cesar, Napoleon and may other war generals.

Hmm. I don't know. Perhaps Napoleon, Shaka Zulu etc. As to regard with the Alexander the Great not being a Greek. He was a Greek. In that period of time Greek speaking peoples lived in that area. The Slavic Macedonians came much later after Alexander's Conquests

I didn't know Alexander had any one-on-combat as the general of the Macedonian hoplites. I'd have to say the 'warrior' status was a toss up between Crazy Horse and the mythical Achilles.....but that's just my opinion.
