I had my first ultrasound at exactly 16 weeks three days ago. The person who did it was not a doctor, but an intern. The heart rate was 140.2, and i did see the fetus move around as well. I wanted to know the sex of the baby but the lady was not able to tell. Well she gave me 2 pics of the ultraound, but it just looks kind of "weird" to me because i have seen some 16 wk old fetus ultrasounds and they all look normal to me, just like regular tiny babies. Bu mine looks "different" i guess. I can see the head, and little feet, but the body and and shape of the face and head doesn't look like the other pictures of fetuses that i have seen before. I don't know if this is all normal or if it's just me being scared.

Ultrasound pics vary widely based on the position of the baby. I used to work in an office and lots of folks got very cute pics with nice looking babies on them. I was sad when I was pregnant that mine were consistently in the look like an alien/ keep the legs crossed position. Couldn't tell the sex and not much of a fridge shot. But my girls are way cuter than their kids anyway so nyeah! :-)
lol, long story short it sounds like a completely normal scan.

Sounds all normal to me. Some people get better quality ultrasounds than others. It really depends on your insurance. So that might be why the picture looks different than other people. Don't worry about it. If there is something wrong, the doctor will let you know. This is an old wives tale, but by the heart rate, I think it will be a girl.

I have had 3 ultrasounds (8 wks, 14 wks, 25 wks). The only one you could really see much on was 25 wks, and it was scary. Her face looks like a skull. I always see cute little baby faces from everyone else, and mine looked like a demon in most of the pics.

As far as someone above saying if there was something wrong they would tell you right away, most of the time they will not. U/S techs are not allowed to tell anything medically, as they are just techs, not Dr's.

I went through this same thing!!! I didn't understand my ultrasound picture at all, but don't let it get to you!!! Those pictures are mainly just for ornamental purposes, trust me...just to let you know there is a baby in there! I freaked out because my son looked weird in the pictures & the ultrasound video but the worrying was for nothing! He came out a healthy beautiful 9 pounder! The 1st ultrasound usually looks like misshapen bean haha. Don't pay too much attention to the ultrasound, just get your doctors 2nd opinion..It's so hard not to freak out when you're pregnant, I know I did! You won't ever stop worrying about your baby, even when it's out :) Hopefully the next time you get your ultrasound it will be given by a doctor :) Congrats on your baby!

Sixteen weeks is too early to tell the sex. Call your doctors office and ask them if everything was normal with the results. The heart rate sounds good. Sometimes the ultrasound pictures just don't look that good to someone who isn't trained to read them. I could hardly tell anything on my son's 20 week ultrasound until the technician pointed stuff out to me. I had one for my daughter at 10 weeks and it looked really weird, I couldn't even tell which end was the head and which end was the butt. But I could see her moving and see the heart beating.

It is normal to be worried if everything isn't absolutly perfect. Depending on the quality of the machiene and the position of your baby, it could look a little funny. My 16 week ultra sounds looked like a crazy scary little skeleton. The doctor printed up a picture of her head/face, her butt, then another picture of her head for me. All of which looked very unsettling...I loved seeing her and watching her wiggle around in there, but i had to stash away the printed photos cause they were a bit scary for me to look at. Your baby might not have been photogenic that day.:) Try not to worry. If there were something wrong, they probably would have told you. :) And the fact that they detected a heart beat is a great thing. :) Maybe your baby was snoozing for a bit. :) Try not to worry!:)

If you are having second thoughts talk to your ob and then have another ultrasound done so that you can have peace of mind.
if you go to the ER if will be a long wait and plus the Ultrasound tech won't be able to give you info because they are not in the position to do so. They will show it to the radiologist and then a report will be given to your er doc. As an Ultrasound tech...it is best to see your OB first because they are able to answer your questions right then ok....by the way Congrats!!!

I've had lots and lots of ultrasound pics done, some look normal and some don't, mainly because the babies move around when they go to snap the pic so it looks a bit distorted. I'm sure your baby is fine...

some times it looks different at different angels. And I have had alot od ultrasounds. 4 pregnancies, with about 30 ultrasounds. It sounds as though the ultrasound tech as not as good though. Not problem though just ask your doctor if you can maybe have another ultrasound by someone different. Godo luck and sure everything is ok!
