I don't know that people think he will get past the primaries, they are just giving it their best shot at making a change. Its funny that the only people I can see who are happy with the state of things and the field of mainstream candidates are trolls on Yahoo Answers. We're going to hell in a handbasket no matter who wins among these puppets and the source of your annoyance is a group of people actually acknowledging it. Real smart of you. I'm sure Fred Thompson is your idea of a candidate. Tool.

The fact that you have to acknowledge Ron Paul, or any of his fans, is proof that he is gaining momentum. I was like you, bashing Ron Paul, you can even check my questions, there are several ones similar to yours here in mine (actually, mine were probably worse). Why did I do this? Ignorance. Now, he may have some of the wackiest ideas in a long time, some of which I don't agree with, but quite simply people choose a president based on how well that person represents them. For the most part, many candidates are more of the same, and he seems like a change. I'll vote for him if he's got any momentum after the primaries, otherwise I'll re-examine the field. I guess I don't fit your qualification of funny because I'm not blindly optimistic he'll do well, but as far as left-field candidates go he seems to be the strongest in a long time.
Now bring on the thumbs down, and go select the best ignorant answer that agrees with you, because after all, this isn't a question but a rant.

right that's what he won't be able to do: a million. Shutdown the Federal Reserve. 2. Shutdown the dep. of training. 3. Legalize Marijuana. 4. Tax Marijuana. All of those require the consent of Congress. right that's what he can do: a million. close militia bases. The President does have super potential in foreign places coverage and militia operations. Paultards are a comedian tale, laughable at maximum suitable. The info is Ron Paul could be a lame-duck President who could have all of his vetoes overturned via Congress.

For some reason, the internet has been a haven for libertarians since beginning of the internet. There's something about being a computer nerd - or any type of academic nerd, which finds libertarian consoling. Perhaps it is because if you are a rich computer programmer (which used to be more common than it was) or a defense contractor (Darpa net, which spawned the internet), you have 'made it' and don't need a philosophy which mandates caring for those who don't.
Also, I think there is a bit of fear thrown in The fear is classic cold war politics - libertarians keep talking about force, being at the end of a gun, coercion, the violence of the state, Gulags, and constantly reference whatever liberal policy as leading to Soviet Style Communism or other things with boots and leather and perhaps knives. This kind of fear silences the nerds and co-opts them to a degree. A typical argument might go, 'I think we need to feed the children' and the libertarian responds 'but not at the end of a gun'. And so on, ad infinitum.

They're fanatical and they talk about him like he's the second coming when, after analyzing his political positions, I began to wonder if he has been under a rock for a hundred years.
ALL you need to know is that he claims he doesn't vote on any issue not specifically allowed by the Constitution. This gonna carry into his Presidential pledge? He won't work on anything not in the Constitution? NOTHING will get done!

Well, I'm not sure he has much of a chance, but I admire many of his supporters' passion for his cause. To me, it's much more positive than the sniping that goes on regarding Hillary, Obama, Rudy, Romney and the lot.

He kind of scares me, since he may get the people who support him into the voting booth - and they HAVEN'T A CLUE how our government works or what the issues are.
