I have a friend that wants to get divorce. She is wondering how long it will take until she is free from her husband? It is a divorce that both of them agree with. No assets to split or anything,,, You know?

Best bet is get a Paralegal to write down the details and get together outside the courtroom and work out everything, get it notorized, file it with the court and youllget a date to appear and if the Judge likes allthe terms and allare stillin agreement, Judge willsign off on it and then usually about 30 days later its finalbeing registered with the county clerks and records division

Most states require you to both live at separate residences for 1 year... once the separation itself is filed. After this one year of separation (regardless of assets or wheter it is amicable), then a divorce can be granted. I know some states are faster than others...just check with the state of florida's guidelines for exactly what they do.

In Canada it takes a year or separation, the othe way to get around that is if the reason for the disolution of the marriage is adultery or cruelty. In the states im not so sure.. sorry.

I started mine in March and finished in November. We have a daughter though - that makes the process longer (child support, visitation, school agreement, what to call the step-daddy, etc.)

If it is a no-contest divorce, as quickly as the courts can clear it.
