I think a review of all aspects of the administration of the death penaly is in order, not just the issue of lethal injection. I have worked enough capital cases to see the power of the prosecutor vis a vis that of the defense, the bias inherent in the method of jury selection (death qualification), the fundamental inequities in who gets selected as "eligible" for death, and the inability of jurors to understand the instructions they are given in how to decide between a sentence of death and LWOP. I did both my thesis and dissertation on this issue and it is criminal the lack of understanding because of the absurdity of the language and construction of the instructions. Pair this with the fact that the SCOTUS declared the death penalty constitutional again in 1976 ONLY because states implemented sentencing schemes that allegedly provided "guided discretion" to jurors in making the sentencing decision and we are essentially back to 1972's issue of unbridled discretion. The entire process is waaaay to biased to be allowed to continue.

I'm all against government intrusions. You can't get any more intrusive than killing somebody. Doesn't leave a whole lot of room for "whoops," does it? Unless of course you're of the mind that the government and the system are infallible, in which case I have a nice white jacket for you to wear with strap-down arms.
