A freind offloaded an old computer, he assured m it worked.
When pluging it in the only thing that seemed to be working
was the fan. looking inside there was no RAM.Would it boot up at all with no RAM.?

no RAM = no boot up.

It will fail the BIOS POST (power on self test) test.

No, with out ram chip set it will not work. When power on do you get any type of start screen, look at bottom of screen if shows key to click for set up then click on and follow prompts.
