When someone gives birth, everyone says they are so proud of the mother and baby, what are they proud of? All they did was have sex and not do drugs for 9 months, and out pops a baby, it happens all the time. Im not trying to be rude...but anybody can do that. Being proud of how you raise a kid makes sense to me, but being proud of giving birth really doesn't make any sense at all to me.

Just because it hurts means it should make you proud??? Thats like saying your proud of a burn victim for not commiting suicide.

You really have no clue about carrying a baby for 9 months and then going through labor, do you?

Try it. I guarantee you'll change your mind.

Well... actually not anybody can do that. Not all women can conceive, and going through a pregnancy and childbirth is a very painful, while also a happy experience. Not to mention all the emotions that are involved. A woman has to take care of not only herself but of the baby she's carrying, that's another thing that not everybody can do. How many people out there DO still take drugs, drink, or smoke while they are carrying a child.

When people are proud, they are proud that their daughter/sister/friend/niece/etc was able to carry her baby and bring another life into this world.

You have never been pregnant. If you had ever been, you'd no what you have to endure for nine months between emotions, hormones, your body changing, etc. Yes, you should be proud of raising good children, but being pregnant and the act of giving birth is the strongest thing a woman can do in life. Giving life and carrying life are two very hard things and until you've created a child and endured pregnancy and child birth you really shouldn't comment on pride in going through child birth.

By the way, the act of trying to committ suicide and giving birth to a living human being is two totally different things.

Trust me. That baby just does not "pop out". Oh, and "All they did was have sex and not do drugs for 9 months" That is a terrible thing to say. There are so many preemie babies born every year. Not all babies go to term. Also, there are some horrid people out there who do not abstain from drugs or alcohol or cigarettes. So, I AM proud of someone who abstains from those things while pregnant. Get a friggin life.

Staying fit and healthy during pregnancy, and giving birth isnt exactly an easy thing to do. Its something to be proud about. After that, how you raise your child is a whole different story.

Have you ever had a baby? The feeling of bringing a new life into the world is a pretty great feeling and when you have someone to share that with it's even better.
If you have never had a baby you shouldn't pass judgement on something you know nothing about!

I can't say I've heard the phrase used after delivering a baby, but it is a hell of a lot more than just having sex and abstaining from drugs for 9 months. Maybe you'll see that one day.

i have never had a baby before but i know the size of a newborn baby and the size of the hole its coming out of. being proud of someone for being able to carry that baby for 9 months, modify their life for those 9 months then push it out of a hole that size is the least we can do. once you have a baby i think youd get my point

i haven't given birth. but, i think it has something to do with the journey. i mean, they created another human being. you spend 9 months preparing for this little being to come into the world. then the time comes and you can hold them in your arms. it's a huge deal and shouldn't be taken lightly. it's a celebration. anyhow, that's how i would explain it.

They're only proud of SOME mothers - if you're an unmarried teenage ice addict on welfare when you pop one out, see how much praise you get!

You are right. Any female can give birth, but, it takes a real woman to raise the child properly. You are 100% right ! Good question !
