We may be the only HUMANS, but that doesn't meant there isn't intelligent life on other planets.

I would have said "equivalent" intelligent life, but I'm hoping they're a lot smarter.

Yes. While the Drake equation postulates possibly millions of civilizations, the numbers for some of the variables are probably way too optomistic. Theres a very good chance that we are it.
For a discussion of this idea, called the RARE EARTH HYPOTHESIS, go to the wikipedia article under the same name.

The Fermi Paradox asks the question "If they exist, where are they?"
An interstellar capable civilization would likely use self replicating spacecraft to explore the galaxy. With self replicating ships, also known as Von Neumann probes after the physicist who concieved of them, the galaxy could be explored within a few million years.
There has never been any alien contact. They aren't here, so they probably don't exist. Not a perfect argument. But a good one.
If other civilizations do arise, it is very likely that they don't survive. They either consume their resources or they destroy themselves in nuclear warfare.

The above answers are correct, but I'd guess that there are probably -way- more than a billion other life forms 'out there'. Some may be much less evolved and some a lot more than we are. But they'll be there if we ever figure out a way to get around the huge distances seperating us.
