format your computer is not fully secure
use the programs like wipe clean

Go to http://download.com and do a search for "wipe disk". You should find several free programs you can dowload and run from a floppy or CD that will totally and permanently wipe everything on the hard drive.
After that you can reinstall Windows from the CD that should have come with the computer, or give the CD to the new owner and let them do it.

If it were me i would format the drive of all data then do a reinstall of windows xp just to be safe

i got a program from walyworld that called 5 in one defender pro, it has a program on it that would do it for u.

IF YOU HAVE THE ORIGINAL DISK THAT CAME WITH YOUR SYSTEM YOU CAN DO A RESTORE TO ORIGINAL FORMAT WHICH WILL RETURN THE SYSTEM BACK TO IT'S ORIGINAL STATE WHEN PURCHASED
