all laws are attempts to influence or coerce behavior, at least in theory for the overall good of society.
What is the point of the question?

As the first answerer said, as long as their behaviors were not putting others at risk, then I'd say, "no."
Obviously, we already have members of our government trying to insinuate themselves into our private lives through "nanny state" legislation. If we ever get universal health care, there will be MUCH more of it going on, because once the government feels it has responsibility for paying for your health care, it will feel it has a right to legislate any behavior that affects your health.

Yes and no.
Laws should exist that prohibit causing harm to others.
Laws should not exist to protect us from ourselves unless that behavior will ultimately cause harm to others.
I do not believe it should be illegal (as an adult) to drink, smoke, smoke dope, have sex with any other consenting adult etc.
I do believe it should be illegal to drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs, to have sex with children or any other person against their will, to kill people etc
