Depo does stop your period, but it is not bad for your body--Depo prevents lining from building up in your uterus--the lining that your body sheds through your period. So you're not endangering your body in this way.
As with any form of birth control, however, Depo has its drawbacks. The most common side affects are breakthrough bleeding and bone density loss--which can be avoided if you take Calcium. Some people experience weight gain. Some people DO get their periods.
I've been on the Pill and now I'm on Depo, and I much prefer Depo. Its more effective (since the Pill's effectivess is reduced if you don't take it on time, and I don't think most people do...) You also only need to get the Depo shot every 3 months, so you don't have to worry about birth control, refilling your pills, changing your patch or Nuva Ring, etc.

My daughter was on the Depo for three years and never had a period. She got pregnant within a few months after stopping the Depo.

I was on the depo shot for 6 years, gained 20 pounds, and when I finally stopped, it took 2 years to start having a period again, they were incredibly painful, and I can't have children despite being married for 6 years (after stopping depo).

I would be very cautious about going on the depo shot. I was on it for two years and they were the worst years of my life. Yea, I didn't have periods, but my emotions were totally out of control. I yelled all the time, couldn't rationalize, and was always angry. That was the total opposite of who I was, so when a friend came to me and asked what was wrong with me, I knew it had to be the depo shot.

I was right. Instead of going to my local health clinic who encouraged me to get on the depo shot, I went to a gynocologist and he warned me that the depo shot was a bad thing to be on and it had ALOT of bad side effects.

It took me a little over a year before I felt normal again. I am so thankful for the friend that had the guts to come to me.....

♦ after you finish this period, it should stop, until you go get your next shot, then you'll have another period then. I did the depo shot for a little while, after 3 months I would get a shot, and have a period every 3 months.

Noooo you should not go on depo, the negatives FAR outweigh the positives.

Check out the reviews at http://www.rateitall.com/t-330-birth-control-methods.aspx and google "depo provera lawsuit" before even THINKING of getting the shot.

I was on it for four years and I'm so glad I'm off of it!

Depo does stop your period, or makes it incredibly light and easy to deal with. Almost like spotting. however, it can be incredibly risky and is even though to be able to cause cancer in the future. But everything causes cancer nowdays..

Anyway, yeah, itll stop your period until you stop getting it. Sometimes it can cause infertility, but usually doesnt.

Unless you are going through menopause, my opinion is that you should never try to intentionally stop your period for good. It is not natural for the womens body to not menstruate. Just deal with it. Try the pill, or sponge, or condoms for birth control, if thats what you are worried about.
