Hopefully you gave them 30 day written notice of your intent to move and not renew the lease.
But in regards to your security deposit. You will not get it back before you move out. Probably not until 30 days after you move out. Then it would depend on any damages, past due rent, if you didnt give them notice you were moving.
Your lease, as of 11/2/07, turns into a month to month lease if not renewed, so you would need to give them one month notice that you are moving and that month (11/2 to 12/2)would have to be paid in full. If you havent done that, then dont expect you deposit back. It will go towards the rent you owe him (30 days worth).

You are probably not the only renters considered for the house, but your half payment of the security deposit makes you "appear" better than the others. If you were to be turned down you would should get your half payment back within 14-60 days depending upon where you live. Still, you should be prepared to pay the other half out of pocket because your old deposit isn't likely to appear for the same amount of time. The application fee is not refundable. Your old house security deposit will be fully refundable if you leave the property clean and free of damage beyond normal wear and tear. Make sure you take pictures of its condition before you leave because landlords have a habit of "inventing damages" in an effort to keep part or all of your security deposit.
It is good to show your eagerness to your new landlord, but bad to be over zealous as it sounds like you have been. Rather than bugging the snotty secretary in the future, I suggest you simply leave a message to be called back by the person who took your application and then explain the time crunch you are in. In reality, an application shouldn't take more than 3 days to be processed.

They will probably consider you high on the list since you have paid a deposit. If they do decide on someone else after checking your credit and references, they will return your deposit. You will not get your security deposit back from your original landord until after you move and they have inspected the property. Deposits are usually kept to offset the cost of cleaning or damages.

you will not get your security deposit back until 30 days after you have moved and the landlord has time to ensure you did not damage the unit
be sure to take many pictures on how you left the place to show in court if the landlord does not return all or part of your monies

In most states, they don't have to return your deposit until 30 days after the lease is up. Sorry, unless you can move out early, and prevail upon them to do a walk-through and give you an estimate of any deductions on the spot, then you are probably stuck.

You should get your security deposit back within 30 days of moving out. Don't call until you can give them the balance of the security deposit. Then assume that you have the rental, and ask when it would be convenient to get the rest of the monbey.
