Well mate, I was born in 1954, grew up in Limehouse (east end of London). I live in Canada now but when I watch shows like Heartbeat it really makes me home sick. Blimey! I can remember sitting in a tin bath infront of the coal fire in the winter, and having to go down the back yard to the outhouse for a Jimmy Riddle or a Brad Pitt. Yeah mate it might have been a bit rough but sod it, Ive got great memories.

Born 1950 so my 'salad days' were in the hippy era, and they were mostly good times. People were happier and more caring for sure, but it had its downside.
i for one was always getting stopped and searched by the cops for simply having long hair, in those days the cops were rougher still on gays and caribbeans.
i didnt enjoy the seventies, they were 'edgier' times altogether. there seemed to be the constant threat of a war between the us and russia and serous economic reccession meant that finding a decent job and housing was all but impossible.
although dickens wrote 'they were the best of times, they were the worst of times' about 1789 france he might well have been writing about the england of the sixties and seventies.

Lethal drizzle? Excuse me! I lived in Los Angeles, before the catalytic converter was invented. We'd get rust-brown smog so bad in springtime and summer that visibility was about 200 yards.

Hi Baz. i was born in 1949. The 50s 60s 70s were Fab. like you say no crimes or drugs as we have now. But school was disciplined, we were more afraid of teachers than of our pa-rants. I was 15yrs and still my mother made me come home by 9-00pm my father would not allow my sisters and i to get married until we were 21. But we had respect in them days, we also had the Beetles, rock and roll, and discos, and lots of fun. You've give me some good memories with your question. thanks.

Where exactly are you from, mate, and have you read history?

I lived in Derry in the sixties, seventies and beyond. There was plenty of ordinary Catholics murdered by loyalists, RUC beatings, illegal army of occupation breaking into houses and detaining innocent Irishmen.
