Every state is different with how they punish deadbeats. Some states have harsh penalties for nonpayment, others do nothing! I think they should make a federal law that makes all states the same. Failure to pay child support should be made a felony after a certain amount(like $5,000) They should lose their license for non payment. Any assets they have should be seized and sold. They should not be allowed get student grants, or any other federal assistance until their bill is paid in full.

The parent who is paid child support should keep a record of where that money goes. They shouldn't be allowed to go buy cigarettes and beer with the child support check! IF the parent cant handle the money responsibly then the state should set up a "trust fund" for the child, that they can access when they turn a certain age(16-18)

I think in today's world, there is a lot of unfair things going on with child support. I think that the court systems need to look into things better when granting so much money to a mother or father. I know a guy that has to pay 600 a month, and when he lost his job and could only pay so much, the girl that had the kid, lost her car, because that was the payment money for the car, and nothing else in the child's household, because he has to buy things all the time, so the child can have things.

I would make it easier to enforce child support orders. I think that the interstate cases are the hardest to enforce and parents know this. I would say that the custodial parent should have the ability to fill out the majority of the paperwork instead of the case worker. Many case workers do not like to do this. If the custodial parent did the work it would be done faster and save the tax payers quite a bit of money. As it is now, my case took over 3 years to come to court. This case was extremely expensive to the tax payers.
Also I think that the family courts should be given more power so that they can effectively enforce the child support orders.
