I just found out that a few people at my work, who started about the same time as I did, give or take a couple weeks, or months; are making about $2.00 or $3.00 more per hour. They do take different calls in which they are supposed to make $1 to $1.50 more, but for some reason I think they are jipping me. They always tell me I am doing good and my scores are high, but they just give me $10 gift certicicates once a month, and passes to dress casual. I would rather get a raise..Does anyone have suggestions, I need help..I need a raise..please help..I don't deserve to be used...

I do get good scores on my calls, that's the problem, I had highest quality one month. Also I noticed, there is a type of age discrimination. I am over 50 and two other people my age are also not getting as much, and one of them has plenty of experience. The new people that they are hiring are getting paid more than me now and $1 more than when I satrted. I think there may be an age discrimination factor here.

I need more answers! No one actually answered my question! I am doing good. I am the only one who has always been on time. I miss very few days. Only the people over 50 seem to be the ones that are not getting ahead, nothing to do with experience. I believe they can make up any excuse they want, not to give you a raise. I just wish there is something I could do about it. It stresses me out to be bullied and now my "blood pressure" is getting high.

Unless there are union rules or some type of contract an employer can pay anyone anything he wants as long as it is not below the minimum wage.

Q. Can employers pay more to some people that are doing the same thing?
A. Generally, yes. They are not allowed to consistently pay different amounts based on race, religion, gender, etc. They can pay different amounts based on many things, or at random. They can also negotiate a pay rate with each employee individual, resulting in better pay for better negotiators, provided everyone receives at least minimum wage and they do not discriminate based on race, gender, etc.

Q. Does anyone have suggestions, I need help..I need a raise.
A. Ask for a raise. They may figure that because you have not requested one, you are willing to continue to work at your current wage, and that they do not need to give you a raise.

Ask for a raise and if your employer thinks you deserve one they will give it to you. As far as the other people...don't worry about them. They are either doing a better job than you or have different qualifications & skills. If you are trying your best at what you do then your probably making the right amount of money. I was told once "You get paid for your quality".

These people may have negotiated a higher starting salary than you. They may have gotten larger annual raises due to exceptionally good work performance. It sounds also like their jobs actually are a little different or more difficult than yours Talk to your supervisor about what you need to do to make a higher salary.Whatever you do, don't say you know what others are making. In most companies that can be seen as a negative.

Preferential treatment is nothing new and as humans (including employers) there's an inherent bias in seemingly innocuous gestures. If it helps, here's a site that tells you how you can think different and go one up in your organization: http://careerstar.pinurl.com

I see it as a good way to ease career anxieties and get what you're worth - or what's due anyway.

Ask if you can be considered for a promotion to take the "different" calls.

If your higher paid colleagues are the same color and sex as you, you cannot do very much about it. But if you are black and they are white, you can sue the co. for race discrimination and retire for life a millionaire.

I was told they are aloud to do this if the other employee has more experience or have schooling or degree

maybe the other people had more prior experience and the company wanted them so they had to offer more for them to say yes

Start taking the same calls that they're taking and if you still aren't making the same mistake I would file a grievance against your company. That's illegal.
