yep, it has a bad clockspring that goes inside the steering wheel. is it making noise when you turn the wheel inside the column? the good news is this carries a lifetime warranty, call the local dealer with your vin number and they will check and see if the recall applies to yours(im pretty sure it does) its technically a recall but they put that warranty on it because so many were bad or you can call the hot-line 1-800-997-1992

It is most likely what chrysler calls a clockspring, heres the part # 5082050ac $43.35 available within a day or two at your local dealership. I would highly suggest you have this installed at a dealership as the steering wheel has to be taken off, and if not done properly the airbag could blowup on you.

A common problem on these vans is the clock spring assembly, this is an enclosed coil of wires (in the shape of a clock spring) that sits directly behind the steering wheel. This component allows electrical contact between the steering column and the steering wheel while the steering wheel is being rotated. Over time the repeated stressing of these wires from turning the steering wheel causes them to break. the horn quits, the air bag light stays illuminated, and usually steering wheel controls for radio and cruise control stop working. proper diagnosis should be done by a competent technician to confirm this is the correct repair, again though, we see this failure repeatedly in our shop. good luck

yes its a clockspring, but its not under the recall. the old body style (96-2000) had the lifetime warranty. and i highly reccommend going to a dealer, too. its a very dangerous job if you don't know how to do it. hte bag could seriously hurt you, and its not cheap either. plus you have to have a puller to get the wheel off.
