I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I had to deal with the same thing a couple of years ago, and it sucked.
The first thing you need to do is call the insurance company to check the status of the claim. It may have gotten lost, and you may need to re-file it. But no matter what, you need to know what is going on with it.
Then, call the funeral home and let them know you have requested status of the claim from the insurance company. They will probably just make a note on your mom's account, and follow up with you in a month, or so.
Most importantly, don't stress out about it. Everything will be ok, and no one is going to come knocking on your door, looking for burial money if you keep them informed about what is going on with the insurance.
As a matter of fact, it isn't unusual for someone's assets to be tied up in probate for a year, or two, and funeral homes deal with that all the time!

Did you put an assignment on the insurance policy to pay the funeral home? I assume that is why you are concerned with them getting paid twice. Even if they were to receive an overpayment they would have to make a reimbursement of any money paid to them over the contract price. Have you contacted the insurance company? You really have to stay on them. Some are quick when it comes to filing claims and some drag their feet. I would first, recontact the insurance company and narrow down a date and then contact them repeatedly until the time you get the claim paid. Second - I would contact the FH asap and let them know of your situation. They should be able to assist you in the insurance process anyway. Third - be thankful they gave you 3 months to pay as that is getting more and more uncommon within the funeral business. A lot are requiring payment on or before the day of service.

I would call the insurance company and see what the status of your claim is also see if they are going to give you a date which they project the case will be resolved. When you obtain that information, call the funeral home and explain the situation with the information the insurance company has given you. See if they are willing to work with you to either wait for the payment, or accept some form of collateral until the insurance comes through.

Call the funeral home, and bring the paperwork from the insurance claim. They should be flexible, and allow time if the claim is in the process of being paid. I'm guessing they deal with insurance companines all the time.
Sorry about your mom.

Ask the funeral home what they have done before when this situation came up. They may be willing to accept a partial payment now if they know that the estate is being processed through the court system.

Not sure about Canadian law. In US insurance policy is not part of estate, the insurance company needs a copy of the death certificate and you get your money. The funeral homes are used to making payment arrangements. NO, insurance company money goes to you. it is yours. You can seek reimbursement from the estate for the funeral expenses.

I would call the funeral home and let them know what's going on. I am sure it won't be the first time they have had the question. They will probably work with you.
I am so sorry for your loss. :( Good luck! :)
