4 years ago, my cousin dated and got very involved with a very good friend of the family. My brothers best friend. The two of them are very adventurous and risk taking people. Over time, they got involved with heroin and lost touch with family/friends. After 2 years of substance abuse, she got pregnant, and he got caught and went to prison for a year and a half. When he got out, their child was 6 months old. Now they have an apartment (I helped her with $400.00 to get in/ she would have been on the streets). Well now he has been out for about 8 months. I went to visit them and at that time 3 dif. people came for WEED. They have too much traffic in/out plus she thinks he is using again. How can I tell her that he needs to get a real job & even though he is on parole it is still possible for him. SellingWEED will not help get them ahead. She will not leave him. How can I tell her without making me look like "the perfect" cousin that they have probably always though I was

it was very kind of you to help your cousin get a place.

if your cousin's boyfriend was an addict, he really needs Narcotics Anonymous, and probably some therapy. even so, we can't force someone to do things they don't want to do.

some people are lazy, and it's easier for them to stay high and sell drugs than make an honest living. sad but true.

you can't tell your cousin what to do but you might want to talk with her. you could just let her know you are concerned, because if HE gets caught selling weed, she will go jail, too... and the baby? probably into foster care. maybe your cousin isn't smart enough to think about the consquences of this type of situation, and maybe she's smoking or doing drugs too?

i'm really sorry to hear you're having to cope with this sort of thing.

another thing you can do is go to an "OPEN" Narcotics Anonymous meeting -- you can ask whatever questions you like of the members, and they probably have good ideas and advice for you.

hugs
