Note: I mean family in the sense of your parents not children.

It depends on what you mean by 'obligation'.

You cannot fulfill your obligations to your family if you are not whole. So in order to effectively take care of them, you must take care of yourself first.

Obligation to yourself....

If you mean family in the sense of children of your own, then the obligation is to them..
