A bolt cutter will do it, but I sure wouldn't risk paying the fine and doing the jail time. In our area, it is a crime to remove a lock installed on a meter by the utility provider.

Most people seem to think people want to remove the lock because they want to commit some sort of crime like theft of gas. I am typing this as I try to find a way to make a simple key to remove the lock on my gas meter. I had my house tented for termites and the gas company turned the gas off as part of the process. S. Calif. Gas Co. is in no hurry to remove the lock and open the valve. Last time I had a house tented they turned off the gas but did not put a lock on the meter and I turned the gas on and lighted the pilots myself. I have replaced the water heater, stove and oven as they have worn out and during a remodel. Anyone that owns a trailer has lite pilots may times, it is not brain science. I stayed in my trailer while the house was fumigated and had to light the pilot on the oven.

Pay your bill and call the gas company. Or remove it yourself. But have a bag packed for a jail stay and a big fine.

Same as any other lock. Be prepared to be heavily fined for doing so. It is called theft of service and is very illegal.

It's Illegal to remove it if you are not the Gas Company and could be dangerous.

pay your bill that is the reason they put the lock on in the first place.

In most states that's going to cost you roughly about $2500.00 and, you won't be able to get gas again. Go for it.
